Nope not essentially, there are lots of artists out there who have made it, who weren’t talented to begin with, and are actually successful in what they do. Fulfilment is subjective.
A friend told me of this girl who studied in art college back when he studied there. Every day she would come in and be completely crap at art, she looked a mess .. was weird and smelled (apparently) and they all thought what the heck is she doing here?? And since then she has skilled up and works in Japan doing what she wants while being successful at it.
Talent is a term that’s wildly thrown around, talent needs work to flourish. If there is no work ethic.. having talent may as well be useless .. unless you have luck or contacts.
The only thing which I would say that is beneficial is having an eye/ear/whatever for what ‘good’ art is or what you consider good, because that will be hugely reflect in your body of work.
Practice, fail and get up again to practice more :)
